But it's not just our own mothers and fathers that we honor. We appreciate all the parents we know, especially our spouses... the mothers and fathers of our own children. That also means that if we have children, we have to celebrate ourselves on these special days!
Here are some ways others honor the special parents in their lives...
Mother's Day Traditions
"For years in my family it is a tradition for Mother's Day to get together at my 85 year old grandmother's house with all my cousins and their respective families. We teach our children this tradition so that in later years they will follow it." -- Alejandra V.
"In El Salvador, we have a tradition to surprise our moms with a delicious breakfast of chicken or pork tamales, French bread, hot chocolate or coffee and quezadilla dessert. For lunch we usually make baked hens and enjoy the broth, handmade tortillas, rice, salad and a fresh fruit drink such as blackberry, arrayán, or another typical beverage such as Cola Champán, and for dessert, we have a milk cake or jelly roll cake. For dinner, we have our famous pupusas and our unequalled cinnamon coffee. How delicious and of course, the floral arrangements should not be missed. Happy Mother's Day!" -- Yvonne G.
"The entire family gathers at my mom's house. The tradition is that all of the children do all the chores around the house. Our mom uses us like her servants and we do everything that she asks. We cook, clean, do the dishes and set the table. At the end of the day we all sit in the backyard to have some coffee." -- Carlos D.
Father's Day Traditions
"The first thing I do that day is wake up early and prepare a delicious breakfast like my dad likes which consists of coffee with milk, toasts with jelly and butter and orange juice. Then I prepare what he likes most, a bread pudding that I make with NESTLÉ CARNATION Sweetened Condensed Milk. It comes out delicious!" -- Gladys S.
"Well, we in Puerto Rico go see are dad and bring him gifts. On occasions, we gather with family to eat roasted pig and play dominoes. That day is not celebrated as much as Mother's Day." -- Brenda R.
"That day we are dedicated to pampering our dad. We start by singing all the morning traditional songs of our country and bringing him a delicious breakfast in bed. At the end of the day, we prepare him a delicious dinner and we give him presents. We try to give him the best Father's Day. To all fathers, Happy Father's Day!" -- Rocio G.
